Primary Health Care Services at AHC

A Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse who has increased his/her education in order to work in an expanded nursing role. While collaborating as necessary with a Family Physician, a Nurse Practitioner works autonomously to provide health care to a population, providing comprehensive focused health assessments, providing a diagnosis and treatment of common ills such as ear infections, colds, and urinary tract infections.

Annual female and male health examinations are provided, and ongoing assessment of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure can be monitored and therapeutic interventions provided.  A Nurse Practitioner can prescribe medications, order various diagnostic blood tests, x-rays/ultrasounds, mammograms, and ECG’s as per legislation.

Health promotion and disease prevention are priorities of self-managed care for the individual, so that Nurse Practitioners provide counseling regarding lifestyle changes/lifestyle management on an individual basis. Working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team at the Health Centre, an artist centred, holistic care plan including complementary/alternative modalities can be formulated together with the artist.

If you would like to book an appointment to see a Nurse Practitioner at the Artists’ Health Centre please call 416-603-5263.
